THE CORLETTE-PARSONS AWARD

 

THE AWARD:

The Corlette-Parsons Award of the Friends of Aiglon College US (the “Award”) is established to recognize one exemplary member of the graduating year 13 (Upper 6th Form) class who intends to study at a college or university based in the United States, and the awarding of a scholarship commensurate therewith, in an amount to be determined by the Board of Directors of The Friends of Aiglon College, USA (“FOAC-US”) on a case-by-case basis.

PURPOSE AND RECIPIENT:

As selected by the FOAC-US, the Award shall be given to that student who has demonstrated extraordinary achievement during his/her Aiglon career, representing the highest ideals of scholarship, character, and contribution to the community in multiple facets of school life, and whose accomplishments, growth, and efforts demonstrate potential to make a significant impact on the world.  The Award is in addition to, and not intended to be in conflict with (or a substitution for), any other related programs of Aiglon College or other third-party scholarship programs. Its focus is to be merit based, and not dependent or conditioned upon an individual applicant’s financial circumstance, the intent of the Award being to honor the most deserving candidate.

SELECTION:

Nomination of a deserving candidate (or candidates) shall be decided and presented as follows: (1) by the Director of College and Careers Counseling of Aiglon College, (the “Director”) after any consultation with staff as may be required or deemed appropriate in the professional judgment of the Director, (2) by alumni and other FOAC-US affiliated persons, and (3) by applicants who may wish to identify themselves to the Director or the FOAC-US.

Nominations shall be made to FOAC-US no later than January 15th of each identified calendar year, with a summary of all nominee qualifications, derived from: (A) the official school recommendation used in connection with any nominee’s application to university in the USA, to be forwarded with the consent of the applicant, or (B) a prepared statement of qualifications provided by the applicant or FOAC-US affiliated proposer.

Final decision of the FOAC-US shall be announced to the Recipient no later than February 15th of any applicable Award year. After consideration of the purpose and criteria herein, the Award shall be granted thereunder in the exclusive determination of the FOAC-US. Any funds awarded shall be paid directly to the USA-based college or university of the Recipient’s attendance.  Subject to the total amount awarded, the timing and amount of funds disbursed during the Recipient’s attendance at his/her college or university, may be made at the election of the Recipient.

CRITERIA:

The criteria for selection and qualifications of candidates for which the nomination(s) and ultimately, the election are as follows:

  1. Commitment to attending college/university in the United States, with a preference (although not a requirement) that the individual be a citizen of the USA, (primary or dual)

  2. Outstanding academic achievement and demonstration of intellectual excellence

  3. Strength of character that reflects the ideals of Aiglon, as taught and codified by two of its greatest headmasters, John Corlette and Philip Parsons

  4. Longstanding and valuable contribution to the Aiglon community in the areas of the arts, sport, or service

  5. Leadership qualities that capture the admiration and appreciation of both staff and students, and that help guide his/her peers to the betterment of mind, body, and spirit

  6. Unique qualities that reflect the promise of valuable contribution to the world, in whatever his/her chosen field of endeavor

*The deadline for the 2021 Award has been extended to Friday, April 9th. The winner will be announced the following Tuesday, April 13th.
